"Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up." - Brené Brown
EP 284
In Episode 279 of the Mindset & Action Podcast, I delve into three effective ways you can show up in your business without the need to be on camera. If the thought of facing a lens makes you uncomfortable, or you’re simply seeking fresh ways to connect with your audience, these methods offer excellent alternatives that allow you to reach and engage people meaningfully without being on video.
The first method, and one I’m particularly fond of, is podcasting. Podcasting is an incredibly intimate way to connect with listeners because it’s often experienced in solitude, whether someone is on a jog, doing household chores, or driving solo. Unlike video, which divides attention between visual and auditory elements, podcasting focuses solely on voice, which builds a strong sense of familiarity and trust. The podcasting space is still fairly open, with many podcasters dropping off after a few episodes, so consistency can make a big impact in reaching your specific audience.
Another approach is voice-over video. If you’re looking to reach audiences who prefer visual elements, voice-over videos are an excellent way to do this without needing to be on screen. With this technique, you can narrate over visuals, such as a slideshow, a screen share, or even hands-only demonstrations. This can be especially effective for tutorials or behind-the-scenes content, like showing how you pack an order or work through a daily routine, giving audiences a peek into your process without the pressure of appearing on camera.
Blogging and written content provide yet another solid way to show up for your audience. Blogging on your website not only establishes your expertise but also boosts your website’s SEO, helping potential clients find you through organic search. While blogging might seem oversaturated, honing in on niche topics can help your content stand out. Written content also extends to platforms like LinkedIn articles, Substack, or Medium, each offering different ways to reach readers where they already spend time online.
In addition to these primary methods, I also touched on the importance of email marketing as a way to nurture deeper connections. Email feels personal and direct, and when subscribers respond, you have the chance to engage in a one-on-one conversation. This two-way communication builds relationships that are harder to achieve through social media, making email marketing a powerful supplement to any of the approaches above.
Ultimately, showing up in your business isn’t about fitting into someone else’s box—it’s about finding methods that suit you and allow you to connect authentically with your audience. Whether it’s through a podcast, voice-over video, or the written word, these options let you build relationships on your terms. So, if the camera isn’t your friend, remember that there are still plenty of ways to make your voice heard and your presence felt.
