"Approach each customer with the idea of helping him or her solve a problem or achieve a goal, not selling a product or service." - Brian Tracy.
EP 266
In this episode of Mindset & Action, I dive into the power of lead magnets and how they can help grow your audience through podcasting. I know, lead magnets might sound a bit dry, but trust me, when done right, they can be an absolute game-changer. I like to think of the process as a bit of a Venn diagram, where your podcast, email list, and lead magnet all come together in the middle to create something truly magical. And that centre point? Well, that's where the gold is!
One thing I can't stress enough is that this journey needs to come from a place of service. Yes, we’re all in business to make money—after all, if it doesn’t make money, it’s just a hobby, right? But at the core, we go into business to help people. Whether you're helping someone improve their health, capture beautiful memories, or (like me) get their message out through podcasting, that desire to serve is what drives us. Your lead magnet isn't just a way to push sales; it's your chance to genuinely help someone on their journey—and when you do that, the sales come naturally.
A good example from my own work is the three-part audio series I created on building authority through podcasting. It’s the perfect starting point for someone who's just beginning to explore the idea of podcasting and doesn’t yet know the ins and outs. It gives them a solid foundation without overwhelming them. And that’s exactly what a lead magnet should do—it should offer a little taste of what you have to offer, leaving them wanting more.
But here’s the thing—it’s not just about throwing a freebie out there and hoping for the best. You’ve got to nurture those who engage with your content. The beauty of podcasting is that it allows you to build a relationship with your audience over time. They listen to your podcast, they grab your lead magnet, they join your email list, and then they’re more likely to come back for more. It’s like a lovely little cycle that builds trust and loyalty over time.
I shared a funny story in this episode about being recognised by a podcast listener for the first time. I’d gone to an event and a lovely woman came up to me and said, “I listen to your podcast!” It was such a surreal moment, but it also reminded me that even though I don’t always know who’s tuning in, people are out there listening. And while freebies are fantastic for building your KLT, make sure you’re asking for an email address in exchange! Don’t make the mistake of giving away your freebie without capturing that valuable email—lesson learned!
Finally, a little reminder about my upcoming live masterclass. If you’re looking to start your own podcast and grow your audience, I’d love to see you there on the 24th, 25th, or 26th of September. It’s going to be live, and don't worry—I’ll make sure your camera and mic are off when you join! If you’re serious about turning your passion into a podcast, this is your chance to take the first step. See you there! Don’t forget to join our Facebook group and register for my upcoming masterclasses!
