In this week’s episode of the Mindset & Action Podcast, I’m bringing you another brilliant conversation from the Mindset & Action Live Event. I had the pleasure of sitting down with web designer and tech enthusiast Cheryl Laidlaw to dive into a topic that’s on everyone’s radar right now – AI and productivity. Cheryl’s background in web design spans over two decades, and when AI started making waves in the mainstream around 2021, her first reaction was one many of us share – panic! “It’s going to take my job,” she thought. But instead of resisting, she leaned in, explored the possibilities, and even launched a podcast around AI and web3. Her approach is rooted in curiosity, not fear – and that’s exactly the kind of mindset we need when navigating new tools in business.

One of the key takeaways from our chat is that AI is already woven into much of the software we use daily – often without us even realising it. From Zoom to Canva and even Outlook, artificial intelligence is making things quicker, slicker and sometimes just plain easier. Cheryl shared that if we can become more aware of where AI is already showing up, we can begin to use it more intentionally – turning everyday tools into powerful time-saving allies.

For Cheryl, AI is more than a productivity hack – it’s an essential part of how she runs her business. As someone with ADHD and dyslexia, she finds that AI helps her stay focused, get things done faster and reduce the mental load that can come with content creation and admin. Rather than seeing it as ‘cheating’, she views it as an efficiency tool. From writing to task management, if there’s a process, she finds a way to integrate AI into it.

We also talked about the difference between free and paid AI tools – particularly ChatGPT. Cheryl uses the paid version, and after hearing her share the benefits, I must admit, I’m reconsidering my own setup! The ability to create custom agents and have the tool “learn” about your business over time opens up a world of possibilities – from tailored copy to streamlined systems that work exactly how you need them to.
