TEXT ME

In this episode of the Mindset & Action Podcast, I had the pleasure of welcoming Alex Standley, the brilliant mind behind Luxe Leopard Lifestyle. Alex is a personal stylist and sustainable fashion consultant who helps women regain their style confidence while focusing on sustainability. We dived deep into mindset challenges, particularly around imposter syndrome—a topic I believe resonates with many of us.

Alex shared how imposter syndrome has been a recurring challenge in her career, especially in her niche of sustainable fashion. Despite having 15 years of experience in the fashion industry and extensive knowledge, she’s faced moments where she questioned her authority to speak on sustainability. It’s a familiar feeling, that little voice saying, “Who am I to talk about this?” But, as Alex rightly points out, her experience and research are what make her insights valuable, even without a scientific background.

We also touched on the transition from the corporate world to entrepreneurship. Alex reflected on how, in her corporate career, she could lean on a team and a large brand, like when she worked at Amazon. But stepping into the entrepreneurial world meant suddenly being in the spotlight, with every decision and outcome falling squarely on her shoulders. This shift amplified her feelings of self-doubt, something I think many new business owners can relate to.

A key takeaway from our chat was how imposter syndrome doesn’t just vanish with experience. Even in corporate roles, Alex faced doubts—standing in front of directors and presenting her work was nerve-wracking. Yet, she developed a thick skin and confidence over time. Now, in her business, she confidently guides clients through personal shopping experiences. However, when it comes to speaking about sustainability, those familiar doubts creep back in.

I couldn’t help but share one of my favourite resources on this topic—Reshma Saujani’s commencement speech. It’s a powerful reminder of why we must silence that inner critic. I see it as a call to all of us to acknowledge our achievements and to show up authentically, even when our insecurities try to hold us back. It’s something that Alex embodies beautifully, and her authenticity truly shines through in her work.

If you’re struggling with imposter syndrome or feel like you’re not “enough” in your area of expertise, Alex’s story is a reassuring reminder that it’s okay to embrace your journey. Her journey from corporate to a passion-driven business showcases how valuable our unique experiences are. And for those interested in learning more about how she balances style with sustainability, be sure to connect with Alex on Instagram, LinkedIn, or Facebook—she’s a wealth of knowledge.

I hope you’ll join us again for the next episode, where Alex and I discuss the four key pillars that guide our businesses. She’s even got a special gift for listeners, so don’t miss it! Until then, remember to acknowledge your progress, lean into your strengths, and give yourself credit where it’s due.
