"Social Media isn't a tool that's just waiting to be used. It has it's own goals and it has it's own means of pursuing them by using your psychology against you. " - Unknown.
EP 212
In the fast-paced world of digital marketing, the constant search for authentic engagement and substantial growth often leads to an overwhelming reliance on social media platforms. In the latest podcast episode, I'm taking you through my journey from Instagram to LinkedIn, a move prompted by the need to break free from the limiting algorithms and pursue genuine business connections. How fitting that this episode drops just 2 days after Meta goes down.
My candid narrative begins with a revelation. Despite my diligent efforts on Instagram, including regular posts and engagement strategies, the return was disappointing. This realisation of a year of focused effort resulted in little to show for it served as a wake-up call, sparking the desire to reclaim control over my digital strategy by focusing on assets like email lists—assets that I truly own.
The pivot to LinkedIn was not just a change in platform, but a strategic move towards a space where B2B interactions hold more substance. I recount how an ad campaign on Instagram brought in a good amount of leads, but that paled in comparison to the potential LinkedIn presented. My first week of launching a newsletter on LinkedIn yielded more subscribers than I got leads for the ad or followers on Instagram in the last year, a testament to the platform's untapped value for professionals seeking to connect in a meaningful way.
In the episode, I don't shy away from dissecting the effectiveness of different social media strategies. I emphasises the importance of authenticity in online interactions and the potential disconnect when using social media managers. The focus shifts to the use of one's time and resources, prompting listeners to assess whether their current platforms truly serve their business goals.
This story is a powerful reminder that in an age where digital overlords dictate our online presence, it's crucial to cultivate business relationships that transcend the confines of social media. By embracing platforms like LinkedIn, which are designed for professional growth and networking, one can step into a space that encourages purposeful engagement.
Moreover, my journey underscores the significance of building an email list—a safer, more reliable way to maintain contact with your audience. I invite you to join my email list, where we foster a community that continues the conversation beyond the constraints of social media algorithms.
This episode is a clarion call to those feeling trapped in the social media echo chamber. It's a narrative that champions the bold move of stepping into a digital space where meaningful engagement, professionalism, and authentic growth are not just aspirations but achievable realities.
