" You just need one person to listen. Get your message and pass it on to someone else, and you've doubled your audience." - Robert Gerrish

Podcasting continues to be one of the best ways to connect with your audience, share your expertise, and grow your business—and 2025 is the perfect time to start! If you’ve been thinking about launching a podcast but feel overwhelmed by all the tech and planning, this episode of the Mindset & Action Podcast is just for you. I’m sharing my five top tips for getting started so you can launch with confidence.
A common mistake I see is people jumping straight into buying equipment before they even know what they want their podcast to achieve. Your first step isn’t a microphone—it’s a strategy. Ask yourself: Who is my audience? What value or transformation will my podcast provide? How does it fit into my business? You need a clear vision of what your podcast is for and how it serves your audience. Whether it’s your main lead-generation tool or a resource for existing clients, defining its purpose will keep you consistent and help it grow.
You don’t need a fancy studio or expensive gear to start podcasting. I recorded my first episodes using my Apple wired headphones, under a duvet for better sound! A good starter mic (like the Samson Q2U) is a great investment when you’re ready, but don’t let tech hold you back. Free software like Audacity works perfectly for recording and editing, and platforms like Buzzsprout make hosting easy. The key is to start with what you have and upgrade as you grow.
While fancy setups aren’t necessary, audio quality does matter. People will forgive a lot, but bad sound will have them switching off fast. Record in a quiet space, use soft furnishings to reduce echo, and consider a pop filter if your ‘P’ and ‘B’ sounds are too strong. Speaking clearly and at a steady pace also helps—especially as many listeners speed up playback! Even small improvements can make a big difference in how professional your podcast sounds.
One reason new podcasters quit early is running out of content ideas. Before you launch, plan at least 12 episodes so you have a roadmap. A great structure to follow includes:
Your story – Who you are, what you do, and why you started your podcast.
Common mistakes or myths in your industry.
A ‘how-to’ episode sharing your expertise.
Having episodes planned in advance means you’re not scrambling for ideas, helping you stay consistent. Also, launch with at least two full episodes so listeners can binge straight away!
Don’t wait until your first episode is live to start talking about your podcast—build excitement early! Start sharing sneak peeks four weeks before launch via email, social media, and teaser clips. Getting listeners to sign up for updates is also a great way to grow your email list. If you’re interviewing guests, get them involved in promotion too. A strong launch helps set your podcast up for success, making it easier to grow over time.
Starting a podcast doesn’t have to be complicated, but having a clear strategy and simple setup will make your journey much smoother. If you’re ready to launch, I’ve got two great options to help: my self-study course (launching soon—sign up for the waitlist!) or my group program, where I guide you through the process step by step.
